FOg Computing in Ambient Assisted Living

Objective: improve and innovate assistance and care services for vulnerable individuals through an integrated use of sensors for monitoring, actuators, home automation components, and assistance robots.

The project aims to propose an innovative solution based on sensors, actuators, home automation, robotics, and Artificial Intelligence capable of offering innovative assistance and monitoring services that allow frail elderly people to remain in their own home environment for as long as possible, lead a healthy lifestyle, and receive personalized assistance.

FOCAAL will also enable healthcare workers to optimize in-person visit times and assistance resources by proposing an integration between artificial intelligence, robotics, home automation, and sensor technology through fog computing network architecture, which allows for locally processing data - within the patient's living context - and implementing personalized actions for different care contexts and scenarios.

Exprivia, as the project leader, assumes the role of project coordinator and will focus on the modeling and integration of the FOCAAL system, particularly:

  • Definition of functional and architectural specifications of the integrated FOCAAL system
  • Modeling and prototyping of a "cognitive robotic agent" capable of autonomously performing proactive services towards the user, interacting with them or supporting them in tasks such as monitoring their physical and cognitive health status
  • Identification and characterization of the experimental setting and analysis of data resulting from experimentation
  • Dissemination and Communication of the FOCAAL system
