Exprivia has provided its expertise for the definition of a path of integration of the Building Information Modeling methodology within the business flows of a company operating globally in the Energy & Utilities sector.
Needs
The customer’s request arises from the need to use BIM models to support engineering, construction and maintenance operations, maximizing the integration of business processes and tools with those typical of BIM.
The ultimate goal is the digitization of the entire asset portfolio, concretizing the concept of Digital Twin and exploiting its potential for the smart management of one’s assets.
Exprivia Solution
The project was divided into several streams, with the aim of covering both technical needs and management needs of the customer. In fact, Exprivia has carried out activities not only in the field of analysis and technological integration, but also in the training and change management of the resources already present in the company.
The path led the team to the definition of company standards and guidelines for the management of relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, also following an activity of redefinition of corporate roles and processes. An important part of the project concerned the identification of tools based on the use of the BIM methodology most suitable for the needs of the Energy & Utilities sector, the analysis of the tools currently in use and finally the integration of all systems.
The key points of the project were the use of OpenBIM technologies and protocols, in order to allow maximum interoperability within the working groups, and the centralization of all data, eliminating the information silos generated over time.
The iterative process behind the project made it possible to optimize the team’s activities, thanks to the continuous feedback of the actors involved. A series of pilot projects were carried out, which made it possible to test, validate and improve the project outputs.
Results
The project brought the customer a series of advantages including the optimization and better control of BIM-oriented business processes, in the different phases of asset life (Design, Construction, Cost Control, Planning, Commissions & Handover, O&M), the standardization of design and business information contents, the optimization of existing IT technologies and integration with new, in line with the company’s digital strategy and target architecture.
BIM Methodology
The BIM methodology represents the engine of Digital Transformation, it is the starting point for the creation of Digital Twins to support the entire value chain
THE TEAM
The project involved a multidisciplinary team made up of specialized and certified resources, with skills in BIM methodology and information technologies. The BIM competence center includes resources acquired and trained as part of the Exprivia BIM Academy.
Exprivia is a member of the international association BuildingSmart, responsible for the standardization of the BIM methodology at a global level, and actively participates in various working groups, including the one on BIM & Blockchain.
It also collaborates with a network of specialized partners, such as software vendors and strategic consultants.
