THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The goal of the PROSIT project is to create a “clinical collaboration” platform that allows the adoption of a model of care for a chronic patient suffering from cardiovascular diseases (such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure, arrhythmias, pulmonary thromboembolism, etc.). These pathologies require treatment in a hospital setting for diagnosis and for any acute phases and subsequent follow-up in the home and care settings.

The PROSIT system aims to adopt care models that allow the patient to be supported and assisted directly at home, through telematics, information technology and advanced sensors, to encourage lifestyles that conform to the pathology, assess the correct therapeutic adherence so as to be able to intervene promptly in the event of a detected escalation of the disease and recover the patient’s clinical stability without the need for hospitalization hospital.

The project is developed according to various research dimensions, ranging from the conception and implementation of a wearable sensor for the monitoring of cardiac patients, advanced molecular diagnostic instrumentation (for the identification of genetic polymorphisms) and a system for minimally invasive interventional surgery in the cardiovascular field.

The PROSIT platform is able to manage the treatment workflow of a patient suffering from heart disease, both in a hospital setting and remotely through Telemonitoring, starting from his or her framing in a Therapeutic Care Pathway and during the follow-up phases according to the evolution of the pathology of interest. The reference models (clinical-pathways) are defined in such a way as to adapt to the clinical condition of the patient who is monitored in real-time by means of an advanced Clinical Decision Support System.

Exprivia will be responsible for:

  • Create a Virtual Assistant (virtual coach) for a cardiac patient to be monitored
  • To create an IoT-oriented software platform, consisting of the following modules:
      • Plan Designer – environment for PDTA design
      • Plan Workspace – PDTA execution environment
      • Patient Viewer – patient overview
      • Clinical Analytics – clinical data analysis
      • Integration Framework

For the creation of this prototype, Exprivia will make use of the clinical skills offered by the staff of the CiTEL (Interdepartmental Center for Research in Telemedicine) established at the University of Bari.

  • To create the prototype of an Operations Center (control room) that allows to monitor both patients and the sensors granted to them for the project clinical trial.
