CareGenius

CAREGENIUS

The project is led by Exprivia, which has received funding approved by the Autonomous Province of Trento pursuant to Provincial Law No. 6 of 13 December 1999, and involves a number of technological partners, including the University of Trento and the Bruno Kessler Foundation. The Autonomous Province of Trento, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Provincial Health Services Agency of Trento and the S. Orsola-Malpighi Polyclinic in Bologna have also joined the trials of the systems to be implemented.

The aim of the CareGenius project is to develop a new software suite that will enable the vast amount of healthcare data available – including text-based data – in corporate repositories and Electronic Health Records to be transformed into knowledge that can be applied to care processes, research and the governance of healthcare systems. Through the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Big Data and Analytics/AI technologies applied to the healthcare context, tools will be developed to support clinical and managerial staff in the management of care, clinical pathways, prevention and strategic planning.

THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

During the CareGenius project, through the use of NLP technologies to extract structured information from clinical text documents, structured healthcare databases will be created based on historical information contained in medical records and electronic health records. Pseudonymisation techniques compliant with privacy regulations will also be applied to enable the use of these databases for analytical purposes.

Clinical and healthcare Big Data will be utilised, applying Artificial Intelligence, visualisation and process automation technologies, to produce a suite of advanced, interconnected, extensible and integrable tools to support clinical care and governance.

During implementation, four closely integrated yet autonomous platforms will be developed: a middleware platform for the acquisition, pseudonymisation, ingestion, aggregation and maintenance of big clinical data from various available sources; a platform for the modelling, execution and management of PDTAs, a Business Intelligence and predictive analytics platform based on machine learning (CareGenius Clinical Analytics), and an operational workspace for patient summarisation (CareGenius Patient Viewer) and care orchestration (CareGenius Plan Workspace).
