Kedrion Biopharma is an Italian biopharmaceutical company that collects and fractionates human plasma to produce plasma-derived therapies for the treatment and prevention of rare and serious diseases and conditions. The company puts its expertise and commitment at the service of communities and healthcare systems worldwide, with the aim of helping to improve the quality of life for people affected by rare diseases and expanding patients’ access to available therapies.
Needs
Kedrion’s need was to re-engineer the document production system. The main objective was the automation of document processes and reporting to various regulatory bodies, minimizing manual entries, reducing the likelihood of errors and increasing the overall efficiency in corporate document management. The challenge included the automatic extraction of traceability data from PDFs of invoices, packing lists and quality certificates, characterized by a high variability of formats, and the validation of the extracted data.
Exprivia Solution
Exprivia, a leading company in digital transformation, has designed and implemented an integrated solution to support Kedrion in the automation of document processes. The solution was based on a mix of advanced technologies, including SAP Fiori, AWS Textract, Natural Language Unstanding ( NLU ) and AI-Based technologies, to ensure efficiency and accuracy in data extraction and management.
Results
During the project to improve Kedrion’s document system, Exprivia introduced specialized technologies to automate processes and reduce manual intervention. Thanks to these intelligent technologies and the involvement of the client company’s Global IT, it has been possible to automatically extract data from PDF documents from multiple suppliers, characterized by a high rate of variability both in the type of information and in the layouts of the documents themselves.
In addition, the use of advanced models has made it possible to organize the extracted information into coherent and easily manageable data structures. The accuracy of the data was ensured through validation methods that analyze the similarity between texts, ensuring a high level of reliability. The document systems re-engineering solution has been designed following a modular approach, in order to make it flexible both with respect to the target systems to be integrated and with respect to any technological upgrades.
Kedrion Biopharma has benefited from a significant optimization of document processes thanks to the integrated solution provided by Exprivia. The re-engineering and automation of the document system has led to a reduction in entry times, a decrease in the likelihood of human error and greater overall efficiency in corporate document management, allowing Kedrion to improve one of its key processes.
