The Digital Future project is centred on two technologies, Big Data Analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT)<\/strong>, which are currently driving the technological revolution across most industrial sectors by connecting digital and \u2018smart\u2019 objects with people and places in contexts where the physical and digital worlds are increasingly merging and becoming intertwined, thereby increasing the demand for the management of vast amounts of data.<\/p>\n In light of these trends, which are also shaping the development of the Italian digital market, and thanks to the financial support of the Apulia Region<\/strong> \u2014as part of the Apulia Region Operational Programme 2014\u20132020<\/strong>\u2014Exprivia\u2019s primary objective is to establish a new production unit<\/strong>, a Centre of Excellence designed to house 20 specialists tasked with developing software products and solutions that utilise technologies based on IoT and Big Data Analytics.<\/p>\n For Europe to regain a leading role in the manufacturing industry, it must invest around \u20ac90 billion a year in the sector over the next 15 years<\/strong>, and Germany plans to invest around \u20ac40 billion<\/strong> in the coming financial year. In Italy, the share of industry in GDP has fallen from 20% to 16%, reclaiming this role is essential both for maintaining market share and for the development of the market itself, and therefore for employment growth.<\/p>\n The Three-Year Development Programme for the Apulian Mechanical Engineering District<\/strong> highlights that the sector\u2019s contribution to exports amounts to approximately \u20ac6 billion<\/strong>, with the machinery and mechanical equipment manufacturing sector continuing to grow. The Programme highlights that over 80% of exports are directed towards European Union countries, where competition based on product and service quality is most significant.<\/p>\n An interesting area where Big Data and IoT can bring significant benefits is that of after-sales services<\/strong>. In particular, support and maintenance processes will benefit from these technologies; Another area in which Big Data and IoT can bring numerous benefits is that of environmental and territorial safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The overall social costs of damage caused by land instability and the resulting healthcare expenditure in the short, medium and long term are enormous. Suffice it to say that, for landslides and floods alone, it is estimated that between 1944 and 2012 in Italy the total cost of damage amounted to \u20ac61.5 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In this context, the development of ICT technologies in the fields of Big Data and IoT<\/strong> presents an opportunity to create tools and applications for Situational Awareness<\/strong> \u2013 that is, the accurate perception of what is happening in the surrounding environment \u2013 in order to apply, in real time, decision-support techniques capable of making the response of organisations and government bodies much faster and more efficient.<\/p>\n The challenge to be met now, in this exceptional era of digital transformation, is to make all that geo-referenced information (images, videos, data, text, voice, sound) from a wide variety of sources easily accessible, even in complex scenarios. Today, in addition to traditional sources (the web, enterprise repositories, open data, etc.), also a multitude of sensors<\/strong>, whether in orbit or worn, fixed or mobile.<\/p>\n Finally, the project aims to develop an innovative technological solution for the early detection of chronic conditions, their subsequent diagnosis and treatment<\/strong> through the constant monitoring of vital signs using innovative wearable devices and the implementation of home care pathways, also utilising autonomous robotic systems and actuator devices, with the dual aim of improving patients\u2019 quality of life and containing costs for the National Health Service.<\/p>\n The main objective is the implementation of the Telemedicine<\/strong> IT solution to support all stages of the care pathway, from initial assessment through to the monitoring and treatment of chronic conditions.
